Meet Low Ball
Low Ball (2008 Mazdaspeed3 Rally Car)
Low Ball is Ball Pit Motorsports' budget-minded RallyCross project, built on the belief that learning to drive on dirt makes you a better driver on pavement. Loose surfaces demand smooth inputs, quick corrections, and an understanding of weight transfer that simply can't be learned by chasing lap times alone. The goal wasn't to build the fastest rally car—it was to build the most smiles per dollar while sharpening the skills that translate directly to road racing.
The project started with a Facebook Marketplace score: a 2008 Mazdaspeed3 purchased for just $1,500 after, fittingly, making a lowball offer. The name stuck immediately. Since then, the philosophy has remained the same—keep the budget low, invest where it matters for safety and reliability, and spend the rest on seat time. Every modification is evaluated through the lens of fun, durability, and value rather than outright performance.
Low Ball proves that you don't need an expensive race car to become a better driver. It represents the grassroots spirit of motorsports: buy something affordable, make it safe, get it dirty, and have an absolute blast doing it. Every RallyCross event is another opportunity to improve car control, learn new techniques, and remind ourselves that some of the best racing memories happen far away from perfectly paved circuits. Low Ball is available for rental at Eagles Canyon Raceway's rally track for Ball Pit Motorsports members and select event days, giving drivers the opportunity to experience the challenge and fun of dirt driving without needing to build their own rally car.
