The Best Part Was Seeing the Smiles
Some of the most rewarding days at a racetrack are not about my lap time at all.
I had the opportunity to volunteer as an instructor with Horsepower 4 Heroes, spending the day sharing the joy of driving with veterans who had served our country. The cars were fun, the track was fun and instructing was fun—but the best part was seeing the smiles after each session.
That reaction is what makes the day matter.
Sharing More Than a Passenger Seat
Motorsports can look intimidating from the outside. It can seem expensive, overly serious or reserved for people who have been doing it their entire lives.
Events like this show a different side of the sport. A car becomes a way to connect. The paddock becomes a community. People who may never have pictured themselves at a motorsports event get to experience the energy, concentration and pure fun of being on track.
My role as an instructor was not to turn anyone into a professional driver. It was to help create a safe, welcoming experience and share something that has brought me a tremendous amount of joy.
The on-track sessions were designed to be safe, welcoming and seriously fun.
That mission fits Ball Pit Motorsports perfectly. We love driving and wrenching, but the cars are ultimately a reason to spend time with people and introduce others to the sport.

Horsepower 4 Heroes uses motorsports experiences to help veterans and first responders reconnect, recharge and build community.

I volunteer because sharing the experience is every bit as meaningful as driving for myself. Watching someone discover what a car can do, grow more comfortable during the day and climb out smiling is difficult to beat.
The goal is simple: help put more heroes in the driver’s seat.
