My First Podium Could Not Have Been Much Closer
My first Apex Lap Attack podium came down to twelve hundredths of a second.
Nine drivers competed in LA5 at Eagles Canyon Raceway, and the top three finished almost on top of one another:
P1 — 2:07.31
P2 — 2:07.36
P3 — 2:07.43
I finished P3 in Golf Ball, just seven hundredths behind second and twelve hundredths behind the win.
That is close enough to make you replay every braking point, every turn-in and every moment you could have returned to the throttle a fraction earlier. It is also close enough to remind you that the real improvement rarely comes from one dramatic change. It comes from stacking together dozens of small decisions over an entire lap.
The Result Meant More Than the Trophy
This was my first podium, but the result mattered because of the field around it. LA5 had nine talented drivers, and nobody gave away a position.
Ross Carmichael earned P1 with the 2:07.31. He drove a great event, and I left looking forward to the next opportunity to race with him and the rest of the group.
Ball Pit Motorsports is not about pretending I am headed for a professional career. I race because close competition is fun, because it gives me a reason to keep learning and because the paddock is full of people worth spending a weekend with.
Apex Lap Attack delivered all of that.
Golf Ball ran a 2:07.43 to finish P3 in a nine-driver LA5 field.
A New Kind of Baseline
The trophy is a great memory, but the more useful takeaway is the baseline.
A 2:07.43 was good enough for P3 that weekend. It also showed exactly how narrow the gap was. Twelve hundredths is not a reason to immediately buy another part. It is a reason to study the lap, improve the inputs and come back ready to try again.
First podium secured. Next target identified.
